What if Lee Harvey Oswald’s bullet had missed on that fateful day in Dallas? What if John F. Kennedy had lived to run again in 1964? Find out the answers in All the Way with JFK, which details a history far different than the one we know. Learn what happens when an investigation into the assassination attempt uncovers a direct link between Oswald and Castro’s Cuba. A revelation that sets off an international crisis which brings the super powers to the brink of World War III yet again as American forces prepare to invade Cuba while Moscow plots a countermove Meanwhile racial tensions rise as Black Americans demand their equal rights under the Constitution and an end to segregation as those determined to forever deny them vow to fight a second Civil War. And all the while, Texas oilmen conspire to bring down John F. Kennedy before he can win a second term by exposing his most hidden secrets, including an affair with an East German spy. All the Way with JFK is alternate history at its best and a thriller filled with twists and turns, including the shocking finale where it is revealed just who was really pulling Oswald’s strings.

For those who love alternate history stories, All the Way with JFK is a must read as it lays out a counter factual 1960’s, where John F. Kennedy returned from that trip to Texas in November of 1963 alive. Told through the eyes of individuals swept up in events where the history of Vietnam, Cuba, the struggle for Civil Rights, and the Cold War itself is far different than the one we know. Go into the Oval Office and the basement of the White House, the halls of Capital Hill and DC’s finest restaurants, Dallas strip clubs and luxury hotel suites, the backrooms of the Kremlin and a Cuban sugar plantation, the Governor’s mansion in Alabama and a barbeque joint in Louisiana, where men and women of both good and very bad will make history. And all with a cast of characters straight out of the six o’clock news Bobby Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon, Martin Luther King, George Wallace, Howard Hughes, Jimmy Hoffa, Chou En Lai, Nikita Khrushchev, Curtis LeMay, Robert MacNamara, Carlos Marcello, Santos Trafficante, Jackie Kennedy, Leonid Brehznev, Hubert Humphrey, Richard Russell, The Beatles, James Eastland, Ronald Reagan, H.L. Hunt, and a cameo by Angie Dickenson, along with appearances by John Wayne, Stanley Kubrick and Sam Peckinpah. Towering over them all is John F. Kennedy himself, a master politician and very fallible man.

I grew up in the 60's and remember lots of the names in this interesting novel. Without revealing too much of the plot I'll just say that the author believes that there would have been lots of trouble in Camelot if Oswald (or whoever else you might believe pulled the trigger) missed the shot on that November afternoon in 1963. You may find yourself jotting down names to try to keep all of the players straight and distinguish between the real and fictional characters but that's probably a good thing. The book does have a few spelling and grammatical errors. Not enough to turn this old literary critic off, but there enough errors to make me say that the level proofreading should go beyond the spell check function of a word processor.

All the Way with JFK An Alternate History of 1964 eBook FC Schaefer Reviews

I wish I hadn't bought this book. I am from the generation that was becoming teenagers when JFK was assassinated and of course am interested in almost everything concerning JFK. Unfortunately the author pulled current day politics into his book and ruined the whole story. Under his concept Liberals are always good, smarter etc. and Conservatives are always stupid villains. It may work for some people but most of us are smarter than that. Yes I'm Sorry I wasted my money and time on this obviously left wing book..
A thoroughly entertaining, but very poorly edited, contemplation of the 1960's political scene in a universe where JFK was never successfully assassinated. The plot is extraordinarily devious, and it is depressingly easy to draw parallels between the cesspool of 1960's politics and today's never ending deadlocks. The players have changed but the song remains the same. On the plus side, the author skillfully uses multiple perspectives to explore differing political agendas, but in the end, the only thing that really matters is, regrettably, money (sigh). Believe it or not, reading this helped me gain new insights into the Trump/Hillary Debacle. Not for the faint of heart, but interesting and cynical view of a world that might have been, but which would still have brought us to our present systemic failure in a world very much like our own.
I enjoyed this book. I was in first grade when JFK was killed, so I remember the 'Sixties & 'Seventies pretty well, and enjoy well-written alternate-history stories. I would recommend this one. I have to say that, at least in the edition, this book is filled with typos and grammatical errors that made it a bit of a chore to get through. I don't know if the print version is similar, but it is a common problem with editions that don't come from major publishers. There were also a few military-related things that I might not have noticed had I not been in the Navy for 20 years (including 3 years serving with the USMC as a Hospital Corpsman). Specifically 1. Marines & sailors don't (normally) wear covers (hats to you civilians) indoors and don't (normally) salute when uncovered. Also, in the last chapter, the USMC character's title is given as "Brigadier General" when it was stated earlier that he was promoted to "Major General". So, minor points but annoying to this old sailor. -) I also noticed that this books is suggested for 12-17 year olds. I have enjoyed plenty of "young adult" books, but I wouldn't recommend this one to a 12 year old, and I wouldn't tell an adult that it is too simple or boring. All in all I recommend it, but I would suggest that the publisher goes back and cleans-up the editing and proofing. I'm going to keep my eye out for other books by the author.
There has been a glut of alternative Nov. 22 alternative history stories. Particularly in this new age of self publishing. Even mainline successful authors such as Stephen King have joined the fray. This one towers above the pile in my opinion as the narrative is so well thought out and has such detail that it becomes so PLAUSIBLE. Some younger readers who were not even born before that long ago age may not make much sense of it all. But older readers such as myself are confronted with once familiar names and characters from that era that I had not thought about for a very long time. Participants in events whose names I had forgotten reappeared from my decrepit memory to reassert themselves. It was a fun good read.
I was disappointed in this book, because the only real "alternate history" about it was that JFK was not killed in Dallas but lived to run for a second term against Barry Goldwater, and without dropping Johnson from his ticket, as everyone thought then and knows now he intended to do. Otherwise, all of the world events and U.S. events going on in 1964 in this tale are based on actual history of the time with just some tweaking, except for our going to war in Cuba and not even able to win that. This was more travesty than "alternate". I slogged through it to the election results of 1964, which was 85% of the book on ,and - this is a spoiler; stop reading if you don't want to know - but JFK wins, by utter corruption and millions of dollars in cash (are we surprised?) and Goldwater loses. What is "alternate" about that?? Goldwater did lose. At this point, the book has been mostly boring, unimaginative, way too padded in order to make it longer, and just became disgusting. I won't finish reading this mess.
I've read hundreds of alternate history tales, including various JFK outcomes, but this is definitely among the best. The multiple point of view narrative is handled well, something that's relatively rare. There are few typos, but nothing critical. Great plotting, good dialogue, who can ask for anything more? In short...it works. If alt history is your thing, or political intrigue, this book's a winner. Kudos to the author! I'm going to read more of his work very soon. Hope this review helps both buyers and the author.
